Title: David J. Fast fonds
Dates: after 1934
Extent: 15 p.
David J. Fast, minister and farmer, was born on March 19, 1899 in the village of Gruenhof, Schoenfelder Wolost Colony, South Russia. He was the fifth of six sons born to Johann and Helena (nee Warkentin) Fast. Fast grew up in Schoenfeld and Memrik where his parents moved in 1908. He attended the village school and then the Zentralschule. He attended Bible school in the Crimea and had wanted to continue his studies in Basil, Switzerland but the outbreak of World War I made this impossible. Fast was baptized in Memrik and then married Agathe Schroeder on October 19, 1922. They had four children in Russia and eight more in Canada after immigrating in 1929. Their first year in Canada they lived in Glenlea, Manitoba with relatives. They then moved to a farm about 12 miles from Grunthal in the East Reserve. David Fast was ordained to the ministry in 1934 by Aeltester Franz Enns and served the Grunthal church until 1953. In 1962 he retired from farming and moved to Steinbach. Here they joined the Steinbach Mennonite Church. David J. Fast died on March 3, 1979.
This fonds contains five sermons and sermon notes based on the scripture passages: Galations 4:10, Numbers 14:24, Hebrews 9, I Peter 1:13-16, and John 1:48.
